Raven Althimer

Englewood Stem
Teacher
Greetings,
I’ve been a proud social science teacher for students within Chicago since 2005, the entirety of my career has been serving schools within the communities of Englewood, Bronzeville, and Roseland.  I love my job and I am very passionate about helping students grow into their full potential, and hope they leave my classroom better people and citizens.  Working with the students of Chicago has given me the wonderful opportunity of sharing my passion; history, with students who look like me and hope they grow to love their story. I teach in a manner where students inquire about the world, form a hypothesis, and research those interests. When students take ownership of their learning, magic happens and life-long learners are created. Our students are our future leaders.  Their education must be empowered with the skills to take them anywhere they endeavor.
Since 2018, my classes has been 95% digital and data-driven. It has been great training for the e-learning environment we currently find ourselves.
Over the course of my career, I’ve conducted training on social science and student engagement best practices (2011 Teacher of the Year award) I have also served in various leadership and instructional coaching roles for the last 8 years of my career including grade-level lead, curriculum coach, department chair, Khan academy coach.  I have always been and will continue to be a lifelong learner within the last two years I’ve been awarded two fellowships Education for Democracy Fellow- Youth and Civic Media, and N.E.H Rethinking Race and the Gilded Age.
I’m so excited to share my talent, best practices and skills by participating in Googlepalooza this year presenting two sessions: Interactive Digital Notebooks
