Inbox (0) - Don't let email control your life

How many unread emails do you have in your inbox? 100+? 1000? More? Most people use email as a way to keep reminders, manage their to-do's, or as a general catch all for everything. Using a few simple tools and a process of "Getting Things Done" (GTD), learn to take back control of your inbox so that you focus on what matters.

Breaking The Education Code: Instructional support to help build teacher capacity, while increasing scholar achievement.

The title of this presentation is, “Breaking the Education Code.” I chose this title because it’s time for us to understand and acknowledge the need for diversity in education. We need to awaken to the changes that have to occur to best service our scholars. This presentation is comprised of some of the best practices and strategies that I’ve implemented as an instructional leader. Right now in education, we are in the Kairos moment. It’s time for us to understand the need for diversity in education and how our curriculum should reflect the different styles of learning that happens in our classrooms. Ideally, our first step is to embrace the diversity that is occurring in various forms in America. I believe that public education is the cornerstone of democracy and if we create a learning environment that reflects the belief that all scholars can learn and be successful, then we will truly give scholars the opportunity to become college-and career-ready.

This presentation is comprised of some of the best practices and strategies that I’ve implemented as an instructional leader. I will facilitate a collaborative conversation around scholar engagement, equity vs. equality, and Tailored Instruction. The audience will leave with strategies around closing the achievement gap in education.

Laboratory & Instructional Spreadsheet Modelling Applications for Math Teachers

Computational modeling and remote learning have defined the pandemic, and Spreadsheet Lab Manual (SLM) has developed a standardized, NGSS aligned computational modeling curriculum framework based on value added in capability. This is due to a gigahertz microprocessor and a vast array of computing cells and functions makes a spreadsheet a powerful tool for analytics, that provides near infinite value added in terms of calculating power and memory compared to the human brain. Leveraging this computing power can be done through precisely guided pedagogy that includes exact instructions students or teachers follow to code the model. SLM provides everything to be remotely accessed, shared, and can serve as an interactive experimentation platform. Spreadsheet modeling is a high-value time investment for educators with professional development credited for completing and delivering a lesson module to your students. Once the first-time prep work is complete, subsequent iterations are influenced by the teacher's own creativity and lesson experience with students, which they can then share with others. By joining the SLM professional learning community, more students will learn physics with spreadsheet based content in class, we grow the diversity of ideas that can be shared, but ensure fair and equitable access to valid content for each and every student.

What’s the most powerful literacy tool on your shelf? Libraries across the country are discovering that large print can effectively support striving readers, ESL/ELL students, and children with special learning needs. Large print isn’t just a bigger font size. Compared to standard print format, large print books are proven to help with decoding, fluency, tracking, and comprehension.
Hear from Teacher Librarian, Tasha Squires, who has found success after embracing large print and partnering with teachers to bring large print books into the classroom. She has seen wider usage, noticeable reading improvements, and happier readers! And because we believe that every library can successfully build and promote their own large print collection, we’re giving all attendees a 5-step action plan and helpful marketing materials.

Laboratory & Instructional Spreadsheet Modelling Applications for Chemistry Teachers

Laboratory & Instructional Spreadsheet Modelling Applications for Biology Teachers

Using Read&Write Literacy Tools with PDFs and Worksheets

Given the rapid changes in the landscape of education across the U.S., now more than ever, we are seeing the importance of having digital technology tools to support the creation and facilitation of classes along with the student support needed for online and remote learning. In a brick-and-mortar classroom, worksheets and PDFs are central instructional materials. However, how does this type of pedagogy effectively get moved online? Participants of this session will learn how Texthelp’s literacy support tool Read&Write and accompanying PDF Reader can support students, teachers, and administrators as they create and move content online. With this tool, all students, including diverse learners, English learners, and students who struggle with reading and writing, have interactive content and built-in supports to help them complete work in the classroom or remotely. We’ll demonstrate how to annotate on PDFs, use dictation and word prediction tools, read text aloud, and much more.

Using Flexible Pathways To Engage Students With Remote Learning

Get students engaged in remote learning with multi-sensory tools (ex: playlists, podcasts, and social media) to differentiate for students' learning needs. During this session participants will learn how to support students synchronously and asynchronously as they navigate through various pathways in the curriculum. These techniques can be implemented in all content areas and create continuity as we face shifts in instruction (ex: hybrid and in person instruction).

Laboratory & Instructional Spreadsheet Modelling Applications for Chemistry Teachers

Keynote Address: Techquity: Creating Culturally Inclusive Learning Environments For Sustainability, Equity, and Access
This interactive keynote will address how to navigate one of the biggest challenges educators face today -- providing students with equitable and culturally inclusive learning opportunities. This talk will include a detailed analysis on the varying levels of culture, addressing our social-emotional needs, and why we must ensure our students are provided a diverse and equitable educational experience. Further expanding on the primary purpose will be a look at how technology serves as both a needed and critical component to that end. Embedded within the keynote are personal narratives aligned with the central theme of incorporating both a culturally relevant and culturally responsive pedagogy to any content area.

Laboratory & Instructional Spreadsheet Modelling Applications for Middle School Science Teachers

Level Up: Prep Your Literacy Toolkit with Large Print
