Our school is largely comprised of ELL students. Data shows that when designing new or editing current units, teachers need to directly address their specific needs. To meet this need, an administrator and 15 teachers with ESL endorsements attended the Language Matter Conferences held at Loyola University Chicago. They will also attend a summer UbD (unit planning) training in Hartford, Connecticut. This will enable them not only to address the ELL needs in the UbDs, but to share their knowledge in professional development with the whole staff as well as during weekly grade-level meetings.
